Why prepare children before a procedure?
You might think that your child will panic if they know what is going to happen at the hospital, but the opposite is actually true.
When children know what to expect, a medical procedure becomes far less frightening. Each Bastian Adventure book follows Bastian the Cheetah through one procedure, step by step, in words and pictures a small child can understand.
Each book also has instructions for parents on what to expect and how to navigate the experience with their child.
The books are written by a pediatric nurse with almost 30 years of experience and developed together with a handful of child life specialists.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Meet Sofie Berga, RN
Sofie has worked as a pediatric nurse for almost 30 years, helping children and their families through hospital visits big and small.
When she first started working as a pediatric nurse, she had to take her 2-year-old son to the hospital for an X-ray. He ended up with leather straps over his arms and sandbags on his legs, all because he would not hold still and did not understand what was happening.
That was the beginning of Bastian and his hospital adventures.
Sofie recognized that there were no preparation materials for small children in their language and with much-needed illustrations. So she started doodling, and has now written a complete series of books with the help of illustrator Mike Ferrin.
Each Bastian Adventure book was developed together with a handful of child life specialists in the US, so the stories are both gentle and medically accurate.
