Pediatric Terms

Good communications between a healthcare provider and their patients can make any medical procedure less difficult.
In my experience when a child and parent both understand what is happening and what is going to happen it puts everyone more at ease.

In the coming months I will be adding terms most commonly used by pediatricians along with short definitions of each. I hope that they will make speaking with a nurse or your doctor as easy as possible.

CT Scan -
is short for computed tomography
All you have to do is lie down and this big machine goes around you in a circle and takes pictures of the inside of your body.

IV -
is short for Intraveneous (in-tra-vane-e-us)
It's for when medicine is put into your vein. It's easy.
